Why do you diagnose anger as anxiety?

I'm betting that you have had anger management therapy and have been utilizing your benefits to pay for it.  With that stated, in short, two reasons.  Anger is not a reimbursable psychotherapy code, therefore your insurance company will reject and you will be responsible to pay.  Secondly, anger mimics anxiety.  Anger is a reactionary emotional response to feeling hurt, threatened, judged and not getting your needs met.  Anxiety occurs when an individual feels fearful (hurt, threatened, judged, not getting needs met, etc...) and elevates the fight or flight receptors in your brain.  If you run away, you exhibit the avoidance behavior of anxiety; if you fight, you exhibit the engaging behavior of anger.  Anger rarely, if ever, exists without accompanying anxiety.  If we treat the anxiety, we manage and rectify the anger.  This is why professionals can code anger as anxiety for treatment and reimbursement purposes.  Hope this helped!
